CHS Field is located in Lowertown, a vibrant neighborhood on the east end of downtown Saint Paul. Lowertown is well-known for its thriving arts community, beautiful parks, unique historic character, and a booming farmer’s market.
In the 1840s, Lowertown served as a major warehouse and distribution center for railroad, manufacturing, and wholesaling companies serving the entire Upper Midwest. Many of the buildings that exist in Lowertown today were designed by the city’s most prestigious architects, including Cass Gilbert and Clarence Johnston. The Lowertown Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and designated as a Saint Paul Heritage Preservation District in 1984.
Lowertown has experienced a rejuvenation in recent years, with the emergence of new housing, bars, restaurants, and businesses bringing jobs and energy to the area. The neighborhood is home to the recently remodeled Union Depot, a multimodal transportation hub that serves as the Saint Paul end of the Central Corridor Green Line light rail line.
CHS Field project team is worked closely with the Lowertown Ballpark Design and Construction Committee to ensure that the ballpark enhances the historic and artistic character of the neighborhood.
